Located in central Newcastle and one of the town’s most iconic venues with over 100 years of history; this modern local Gastro Pub is on the hunt for their second in charge. Serving a fresh and modern Australian menu that attracts all the regulars plus tourists, this is a great opportunity for a chef to step up and be apart of a busy and successful kitchen team. With a new Chef in charge ready to take things to the next level, our client is seeking a solid Sous’ who can come in and together with the owner and Head Chef make this venue one of Newcastle’s go to hot spot!

As a hands-on Sous Chef, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including some food costing, ordering and plating up exceptional quality food. As the successful candidate you will have the opportunity to use the best of local produce to help design menus to suite the clientele. In the head chef’s absence, you will be responsible for managing your kitchen team. You should have a good understanding of financial management within the kitchen, including basic food costing.

As the successful candidate you will demonstrate:

• Applicable trade qualifications and accreditation’s
• Previous experience as a Sous Chef or senior CDP looking to transition to a sous chef role.
• Passion for food and the industry
• A thorough understanding of food safety, including HACCAP
• Positive communication skills, energy and attitude
• Desire to develop your skills and progress your career
