Head Chef – Restaurant/Functions – South Melbourne

Job Overview

Our client is in a premier position, right on the waterfront over-looking our magnificent bay . The venue boasts several outlets, including a café and restaurant with the function space upstairs taking full advantage of the stunning views over the water to the city. The venue currently serves top quality Modern Australian food and continuing and improving this throughout the outlets is of the highest priority.

This is a hands-on roll, so the successful candidate should have the skills and experience to manage a busy kitchen during service periods. Reporting to the Proprietor, you will work together to ensure the small team is equipped to deliver a high-quality product. You will be required to step up and manage all aspects of the kitchen operation, which will include ordering, stocktake and managing food costs. You will be responsible in the creation and development of the menu which changes seasonally.


As the successful candidate you will demonstrate:

  • Applicable trade qualifications and accreditations
  • Previous experience as a Head Chef, preferably within a fast paced, multi venue environment
  • Ability to plate up high quality food
  • Passion for food and food trends, and experience creating menu items
  • Previous experience managing food costs and ordering,
  • Previous experience leading a team, including rostering, wages and training
  • Proficiency in all aspects of food safety, including HACCAP
  • Positive communication skills, energy and attitude
