Considering a career in Brisbane’s cafe industry?
With coffee being the second most traded commodity globally, there is certainly no shortage of of cafes and coffee shops at the opposite end of the long coffee chain in which to enjoy it. With Melbourne having asserted itself as Australia’s coffee hotspot destination, it’s very encouraging to see these trendy, new age cafes regularly appearing in and around Brisbane. In fact, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba have become a region of rapid growth for the specialty coffee industry, as the home of several boutique and specialty roasters making a name for themselves in the Australian industry. The great thing about this rising cafe and roastery trend is that it’s propelled the careers of many baristas as a real profession, as opposed to a time when they’d previously have been known as ‘coffee makers’ or ‘cafe hands’ in casual or temporary roles, in between jobs. Likewise, it’s encouraged some real creative license amongst chefs to design some experimental menus moving food in a direction away from classical cafe fare.
